COWBOY ROOTS.....Western living in the high plains
Desert life for todays cowboys has come a long way over the decades. The young guns have swopped their horses for horse power and their guns for mobiles phones. But some aspects stay unchanged especially cold beers and steaks on the grill and good buddies to hang out with. This desert home has been designed for the new John Wayne on the block, a relaxed masculine interior and low key easy maintenance exterior for one man and his dog.
This tall one bedroom property started from the Homestyler 8 template. I have lengthened it so could incorporate a bedroom and shower room. The front entrance has a covered porch and a walkway winds its way around each side of the building with different seating areas & views across the prairie.
The front of the property has mosaic tiles each sides of the glass entrance, a small covered seating area is directly to the right.
A guest arrives for the BBQ.
Hanging out with the boys and four legged friend.
Seating area on the wrap around walkway terrace.
A firepit because nights in the desert can get chilly....and a campervan for those getaway days.
Rear view.
Coffee on the veranda...and a chance to enjoy the view.
I really like the combination of this fabric on these chairs and the back leather strap fastenings.
Perfect corner hideaway complete with shady canopy.
BBQ time with friends.
Looks like more guests are expected judging by the amount of burgers and sausages grilling here.
The dry acrid conditions aren't great for most varieties of plants. Only the succulents usually succeed.
A masculine combination of charcoal greys, plaids and tawny browns have been used throughout this interior. Subdued lighting brings relief from the desert sunshine exterior.
Hardwearing semi rough fabrics have been used on the twin sofas and a touch of hessian dresses the walls.
Every home in the desert needs a cactus.
Old storage chests have been incorporated into the kitchen units.... industrial lights and the customary musical instrument of cowboys complete the vibe.
An oversized mirror is set into the wall and is the main focal point of this area. The colours have been carefully selected to compliment the wall tiles and table texture.
Bourbon and beers....most cowboys favourite tipple.
I love these windows and the mellow muted tones of this interior,
The open plan layout is a perfect casual living arrangement, flexible and sociable.

The narrow passageway that leads through to the front and back of the home.
The bedroom is a small space just enough room for a double bed and a chest of drawers. Two of the walls have been clad in the rustic wooden floor boards.
A partial wall divides the sleeping area from a little home office area.
Space is used to its full capacity with a section of the bedroom accommodating a desk and home office shelving.
The lights are on full and the floorboards swapped out for a more practical non slip texture. The rainfall shower is housed in a unit with bespoke sliding opaque doors
The vanity incorporates a washing machine, another space saving idea when space is at a premium.
A view from behind the toiletries with glimpse into the shower and passageway.
