Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 Arriving at our tourist hotel, I ask the host for a second room key. He takes a box with many keys out of the drawer and looks for the one with the matching number. Unfortunately, it isn’t there. Then he starts looking at any keys he can find. All of a sudden, his eyes brighten up and he thinks he has found the right one. But when he puts it into the lock, he sees that it doesn’t work. It’s close, but unfortunately it isn’t the one. A comparison comes to mind. Many would like to have access to heaven. But which “key” is the right one? Some “keys” seem to be effective or at least interesting. But what if it turns out after death that they don’t “fit”? Then there is no turning back. No one has a second chance. Those who aren’t in glory are eternally lost. And just like the door to the room, there is only one “key” to access heaven. Jesus Christ says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). This absolute statement doesn’t seem to fit into our pluralistic world. How can anyone claim that there are no alternatives? What about the millions of people who are firmly convinced of their religion? In fact, there are more religions than my host has keys. But all of them are ultimately only carefully constructed inventions of the founders of their religion who have long since passed away. Only the message of the Bible comes from God Himself and invites us to believe in the Son of God who died and rose again. We can verify this ourselves by reading the Bible with the sincere desire to encounter the true God.
