Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth. Mark 10:20 My parents raised my sister and me to be “good people”. For us, being good meant obeying our parents, telling the truth, treating people decently and going to church – at least at Easter and Christmas. I think this definition of a “good person” is familiar to many, no matter what culture they live in. Later, however, I learned that the only truly good thing is believing in the Lord Jesus in order to be saved. The Bible tells us of a young man who was a “good person”. From his youth he had observed God’s commandments. But he realised that something was missing. Therefore, he came to Jesus Christ to find out from Him what he still needed for eternal life. He received the answer, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me” (Mark 10:21). In order to be saved, it was necessary for this man to let go of his wealth and surrender his life to the Lord Jesus. We are very grateful to our parents for giving us a good upbringing. But when it comes to our relationship with God, it isn’t enough to be “good people”. We need a personal relationship of faith with Jesus Christ who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Today’s reading: Genesis 24:50-67 · Psalms 9:1-10 https://gbv-online.org/calendar/262/date/2025-05-12
