Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. Isaiah 45:22 The beach appeared almost deserted, and it was foggy and cold. Nevertheless, I swam my usual two hundred or so metres out to sea. As I was about to turn back, I suddenly spotted a woman near me. She appeared quite unsure of herself but obviously wanted to swim even further out. I asked her if everything was all right, and she said that she was very tired. “Then turn back!” I spontaneously advised her. – “No,” she replied, “my direction is correct.” I assured her that she was mistaken and that she was getting further and further away from the shore. But she insisted on her opinion. Urgently I asked her to believe me, and I promised to stay close to her if she would turn back. Finally she gave in and reversed direction. Then, as the beach approached, she heaved a sigh of relief. Before turning back, this woman had done her best, but that had only led her further in the wrong direction. In which direction must we turn when it comes to our eternal salvation? We have to be sure about that! Willingness and seriousness, and even our best efforts, are not enough – the direction must be right! That is why the God of the Bible calls out to us, “Look to me and be saved”! With this, He gives the direction that will take us to our destination. And Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the Saviour and Helper who asks us to entrust our lives to Him. He is worthy of our trust because He went into death on the cross, out of love for us. Today’s reading: Genesis 6:13-22 · 1 Peter 3:18-22 https://gbv-online.org/calendar/262/date/2025-04-14
